This article is misnamed: It tells you what the numbers are (focal length, aperture, etc.), but not what they mean (what are focal length and aperture and what do they affect in my picture?

In reply to pennygmail. I have a Minolta film camera which I have used on our trips toover 70countriesand taken some great pictures, using a AF Lens70-210. Now I finally, after trying small pocket type cameras, purchased a Cannon EOS RebelT5, which I enjoy. However I have a Minolta AF Lens 70-210 and would need an adapter to use on my Cannon. Any suggestions on where I could purchase the proper adapter? I did like reading your article.

I really enjoyed the article, and learned quite a lot. I see numbers not mentioned in the article on my zoom lenses (all I have are zoom lenses.) My favorite lens, Canon EFS 18-135 mm, has a “MACRO .45m/1.5 ft. My other lens, Canon EF 75-300mm has “MACRO 1.5m/4.9 ft.” I assume that has to do with taking close-up shots of flowers, insects etc. But what does it mean?

In reply to jordan88. I realize it's a bit late, but I'll say it anyway. This woman is very intelligent in matters of photography. This article is proof of such. Details such as what the lens numbers mean don't make it into a lot of resources, yet here it is. I, for one, appreciate the effort put into the articles found here by people like Darlene. Just because you do not understand the article doesn't mean it doesn't have value. Darlene, thanks for the work and information :-)

I acquired an old Quantaray 28-200. When I first got it, I hated it. It was temperamental and slow. Now it’s one of my favorite lenses once I learned to put a speed light on it.
