Some very useful and challenging (in a positive way) ideas here. The two things which bug me, and this article is not alone for this, is the use of manual mode and RAW. Modern cameras are designed with a variety of modes, both automatic and manual. You need to use them and select the one which, at the time, seems most appropriate. For example P mode gives you complete flexibility and control. Secondly better results are often obtained allowing the camera to estimate settings in jpg. Some cameras, Fujifilm is a prime example, are designed to provide a variety of superb jpgs. I have wasted stacks of my time trying to drive noise out of my RAW Nikon DX photos, when using jpgs this problem did not exist.
Yes there are advantages in using RAW settings, but the continual harping about you MUST use raw is just counter productive and ignores the enormous advances made with cameras in the last 10 years. I now record a RAW and a jpg with my Nikons using the camera’s two memory card shots. With Fuji I carefully select my colour settings and trust the jpgs.

My input is slightly off topic, but when I was setting up a landscape sunset photo in San Diego, a group of about 10 people asked if I could take their photo with the San Diego skyline in the background. Of course I said yes, but asked the group to sing the alphabet song, but holding at “eeee”. Thats when I snapped the photo. Singing the alphabet song, brought out their child like ease, and they all laughed! resulting in a fantastic natural laugh for everyone.

In general an extraordinary article. Sitting is dubious for headshots, since while it is more agreeable, the stance may not be as complimenting.
