I have bookmarked your photography tips. My daughter gave me a Nikon Z50 with the standard lens DX 16-50, and I am considering the DX 24/1.7. I am looking for help with the best lens or lenses for my trip to Greece.

If you use APS-C cameras, there is the “Crop factor” to consider. There are several…1.3 X, 1.5X, and 1.6X, to name a few. With the 1.5X 50 mm will have the equivalent angle of view of a mild telephoto lens…75 mm, and the 28, that of a 42mm lens. Both very handy, and excellent tools. That’s why I like and use zoom lenses mostly.

I have these two lens and I like them both; I photograph a lot of still life and close ups with the 24mm lens and I add close up filters with it.

Apart from different focal lengths showing very different compositions, I see the 24mm has a max aperture of f/2.8 while the 50mm has f/1.8, and I suspect aperture accounts for some characteristics, e.g. exposure, blur. (A firefox Exif extension, xIFr by Stig Nygaard, shows detailed data removed – likely the website but maybe that deserves rethinking for an educational blog.)

This article was really helpful thank you so much. I had both of these in my canon shopping cart and could not decide – but this pushed me to get both – lol! Oh well they were refurbished and one was on sale on top of that so I feel like I got a good deal.

I have Canon 700d. Which 1 should I buy, 24mm or 50mm?
For potraits, I generally use my kit lens 55-250, gives a good blurry background though.
