It helped me to understand light in a way that even improved my natural light photography. https://www.markschoenfelt.com/photographer-in-cape-coral-contact

The breakdown of different types of lights – from strobes and continuous lights to flashguns – is super helpful, especially for beginners who might be overwhelmed by the jargon. I appreciate the detailed descriptions of modifiers like softboxes, umbrellas, and beauty dishes, as well as the explanation of how each lighting element, such as the key light and fill light, plays a role in shaping an image. The inclusion of technical terms like CTO gels, grids, and triggers really enhances the learning experience. It's also great that " photo editing tools " can complement the effects created by lighting, making it easier to perfect an image during post-processing. Overall, this guide is incredibly informative and a must-read for photographers looking to improve their lighting setups!
Best regards
Alisa

Hi Simon. I’m using Neewer 250w monolights. I have a shoot next Saturday so will set it up and send a photo then as I left the stand behind at the venue. Tried again yesterday, but it was hopeless so ended up using my little cheap ones. So frustrating – grrrr 🙂

Hey Avril, the Neweer should do its job just fine. How’s your strobe attached (and what strobe are you using?) Post a pic if you can, cheers! – Simon (I’m the dPS support guy, but I also have/use c-stands etc)

It’s a solid bit of kit, but when I put my strobe on the end and then try to adjust it up or down the strobe spins around it’s heavy and I can hardly hold on to it. I’m only little so that doesn’t help. I have stopped using it for now until I know what I’m doing with it but it’s a shame not to use it. Any tips? 🙂

Can you recommend a good starter kit for Headshots please.
At this stage, budget is important I’m afraid

Very helpful. Thanks for sharing. Agree with you, backdrop is essential for studio, especial for portrait photography. For portrait shots, I really love abstract backdrops, like these: https://dbackdrop.co.uk/collections/abstract-texture-backdrop
Due to the classic look, they work well for every type of photo shoot.

Thanks for that Richard, much appreciated! Power packs and generators are a great addition. Thanks for mentioning that!
